Blog Post 1

On September 26, 2009, Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha died after a successful seventy-five year career.

With expert technique, de Larrocha won audiences across the globe despite her physical limitations that included unusually petite hands and small stature. She performed over four thousand concerts, playing both classical standards and modern pieces to enchanted audiences.

"She was an extraordinary ambassador for Spain," said Angeles Gonzalez-Snide regarding the piano master from Barcelona.

She began her career at the age of 15 (playing from age 6 as a musical child prodigy) and retired at age 80 due to health problems. De Larrocha won four Grammies and several other awards.

She leaves behind two children and many admiring fans.
